I hope you got any jokes at Phil Humber’s expense in before today, because after throwing the 21st career perfect game in Major League history against the Mariners, you must now refer to Humber as “21st Perfect Game in History Humber” or “Mr. Perfecto” or simply “His…

The 20 Best Small Towns in America from Smithsonianmag.com | #20: Oxford, MS
“Named in honor of the British university, Oxford prides itself on being an intellectual oasis, home of the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss). William Faulkner, who grew up in Oxford and modeled his fictional Yoknapatawpha County on his home, is everywhere. His family house, Rowan Oak, offers tours and showcases Faulkner’s liquor cabinet, including his metal mint julep cup. J.E. Neilson’s department store on the town square has a framed note from the cantankerous author responding to an overdue bill statement. The literary legacy has led to a renaissance of independent bookstores, including the Mississippi landmark Square Books, which showcases the state’s most famous writers, including Eudora Welty, Tennessee Williams and John Grisham. Two annual conferences, the spring Oxford Conference for the Book and July’s Faulkner and Yoknapatawpha Conference, bring even more writers to town. The other arts are far from neglected; the Oxford Film and Music Festivals in February, plus the town’s proximity to Memphis and Nashville, keep Oxford on the circuit for popular and cutting-edge productions and performers. — AS”
I love/miss Oxford. I will be heading back soon for the Annual Double Decker Arts & Music Festival.
Came home from work today. Trav was asleep in my bed, woke him up, he felt clammy. Took his temp, perfect. Every question was asked of him..Does your head hurt, tummy, throat? “No.” Then.. Are you just really sleepy?” No.” Low muffled whiny tone Do you want me to leave you alone? “no please don’t go anywhere.” (while hugging me) “I don’t know, I don’t know, I don’t know” he keeps saying..more irritated every time I open my mouth to ask something else. Finally I ask.. Trav, Today was a Hard day in your life wasn’t it? .. A brightness filled my babies eyes. A switch flipped on. -I had finally asked something that he could say “Yes” to.- I asked him if he realizes how amazing the human body is, how complex it is?.. Your organs & their systems? “Yes” he replied again. I told him that sometimes babies are born different, something didn’t develop correctly. Something didn’t connect. His eyes remained just as bright, while he attentively listened to me. I told him everything developed correctly in him except expressing himself with language(talking) as well as his ability to understand language(talking).. I asked him if he is frustrated so much because he Can’t express himself through his words or understand others words? “Yes” I told him of how extremely proud of him I am for how far he has came with his words since he was 3. I told him he is one of the very strongest people I know. A Hero. I witnessed the diminishing of bad feelings as his mind allowed them to wipe away. Relief is all he expelled. My child came to the realization that he has a disability right in front of my eyes tonight.- this was very hard, heart wrenching and is so challenging because his disability is especially tough to “see”. tough. Tough. TOUGH. Travis Jacob is Eleven years old. He is and will continue to be a success story.
